In order to improve the quality of its graduates, Widyatama University (Utama) equips its students with SAP (System, Application and Product in Data Processing) certification. Utama also claims to be the first university to integrate this certification program into its existing curriculum. SAP is software that facilitates the application of company functions from upstream to downstream. It is precisely because of its many functions that SAP has become the darling of large companies, both national and international.
“Several universities in Indonesia also offer SAP certification programs. But we are the only ones who have included this in the curriculum,” said Edi Sudiarto, Project Officer of SAP Program Certification ERP Center-Widyatama University at Cafe Kongkow, Bandung, last weekend. Edi added that SAP certification is very expensive and has been used in 120 countries, 82,000 companies worldwide, and by no less than 18 million people who use the application.
“The cost per person can reach Rp 40 million. But we have included it in the curriculum so that all our students can obtain SAP certification,” he explained. However, currently, out of the 5 faculties at Utama, only the Faculty of Economics, the Faculty of Business and Management, and the Faculty of Engineering are participating. When asked about the absorption of SAP certification holders by the business world, Edi firmly stated that his graduates are highly sought after by companies. “In fact, yesterday I was asked by Edugate (the SAP license holder in Indonesia – ed) to refer graduates with SAP certificates for recruitment.
But we had to decline because we simply don’t have any graduates with SAP certifications yet,“ he revealed. The certification program at Utama itself has only been running for a year. ”Perhaps in 2-3 years, we will be able to meet the demand for graduates with SAP certifications,” he concluded.
