The University Orientation Program (PPU) is an annual event held to welcome new students at the start of each new academic year. Widyatama University is committed to eliminating orientation programs for new students, in accordance with the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education, Ministry of National Education, number 38/DIKTI/Kep/2000 concerning the Regulation of New Student Admission Activities in Higher Education Institutions.
This year’s PPU event will be attended by around 2,400 new students, spread across every study program at Widyatama University. The PPU, which will be held from August 25 to August 29, 2015, offers a different agenda. As part of the series, this year the committee invites participants to care for the surrounding environment. This is evidenced by a series of events, namely cleaning up the Cidurian River. With this series of events, the university community hopes that prospective students will love and protect their surrounding environment.
Series of events
On the first day, prospective students first conducted a rehearsal. The rehearsal was also a practice for students in conducting the open Senate meeting on the following day. On the second day, the plan was carried out at 7:00 a.m. and began with students lining up according to their groups, followed by an open Senate meeting with officials from the Foundation and the Widyatama Rectorate. This year, Widyatama University received a bidikmisi scholarship quota for several study programs at Widyatama University. The study programs that received the quota include Graphic Design, Bachelor of Accounting, Bachelor of Management, Information Systems, English, and Japanese.
The academic community strongly opposes the spread and use of narcotics in the educational environment. Therefore, the committee invited Global Healthy without Drugs to provide drug and NAPZA counseling so that the Widyatama family would not touch these addictive substances.
New students were given several lectures and presentations related to Campus Facility Overview. These lectures and presentations were given by several bureaus that will be involved during the students’ academic process. The bureaus that gave the lectures included the Academic Administration Bureau, Finance Bureau, Information Technology Bureau, etc.
On the third day, new students will meet several alumni and students who have been successful in entrepreneurship. They will share their experiences in entrepreneurship that relate to their academic knowledge in order to motivate them to become entrepreneurs based on the knowledge they have gained in college, in line with Widyatama University’s tagline, Friendly Campus for Future Business Pros.
The event will also feature an introduction to the Student Affairs Office and Student Activity Units. The Student President and other members of the Legislative Board will be introduced to motivate new students to get involved in organizations and develop soft skills.
