Bandung (7/23), Universitas Widyatama welcomed parents of prospective new students who are choosing a university for their children/wards to continue their formal education. The event was called Open House and Parents Gathering (OH&PG). This is an annual event, and this is the second year that Widyatama has welcomed prospective students and their parents to help answer their “confusion” in choosing a study program.
Study According to Passion
The objectives of OH & PG are to broaden the horizons and provide information to parents of prospective students about quality universities, to broaden the horizons of parents of prospective students to be selective in choosing a university, and to provide solutions/problem solving regarding finding a quality university.
With the theme “Investing in the Future: Parents’ Investment in Their Children’s Education,” parents play an active role in guiding their children in choosing a university and study program. “There is no need to pressure them. Parents only have a guiding role. The rest is up to them to decide on their studies according to their passions or interests. The university becomes a place for them to explore their talents, hone them in a formal setting, and implement them in the global world,” quoted from Anies Baswedan’s comments on TVRI West Java News (6/28).
This is what motivates UTama to always guide children to first get to know the majors (study programs). UTama is committed not only to accepting new students, but also to guiding them to study according to their interests and talents as an obligation. With that, the output will be more focused. They are required to have a mind map before they graduate, creating a visionary framework so that they have a direction after graduating from college.
There was something different about this OH&PG event. The invited guests, who were initially placed in the Widyatama Multipurpose Auditorium, were directed to a designated place in the middle of the event and welcomed by the deans at Widyatama. This was more specific, allowing them to be more comfortable in listening to explanations about the curriculum and what they would get if they studied in that study program.
