On Saturday (May 13), Widyatama University, in collaboration with the Bandung City Arts and Culture Subject Teacher Working Group (MGMP), held the 4th National Student Arts Festival and Competition (FLS2N) for high school students at the Widyatama Auditorium (GSG) Widyatama. The National Student Art Festival and Competition (FLS2N) for high schools in Bandung City is expected to be a platform for developing student achievements in the arts in Bandung City. This was conveyed by the Rector of Widyatama University, Dr. H. Islahuzzaman, S.E., M.Si., Ak., CA, when opening the FLS2N event. Also attending the opening were representatives from the West Java Provincial Education Office.
The 2017 FLS2N event carried the theme “Art, Diversity, Togetherness.” Through this FLS2N event, we can convey the message that the younger generation must maintain the unity and integrity of the Indonesian nation within the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI). Hopefully, the benefits achieved will also be in line with the government’s Nawacita vision, namely the realization of a sovereign, independent Indonesia with a personality based on mutual cooperation.
More than 300 participants took part in seven competitions, including Creative Dance, Craft Art, Solo Vocal, Poetry Reading, Monologue Theater, Poster Design, and Solo Guitar, which will represent the city of Bandung in higher-level competitions at the provincial level, culminating in the national competition in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, from September 24 to 30, 2017.
The FLS2N celebration has been held in every high school in Bandung City, with the selection divided into several sub-districts. “Of course, the participants who performed today are the winners of the competitions at each level, who then competed again at the city level as part of the evaluation and selection process at the school and sub-district levels,” said the Chief Executive of the Bandung City Arts and Culture MGMP, Dra. Hj. Titin Komariah, M.Pd.
“Basically, children need to be nurtured in terms of academic, artistic, and cultural abilities in order to foster togetherness and high discipline, which is a process towards the goal of national education,” he added.
The event was held over two days, April 13 and 14, 2017. The first day was the selection stage for all competitions, while the second day was the final stage for the male and female solo vocal competitions, as well as the announcement of the winners for each competition. During the announcement, the event was enlivened by a performance from Wangi Gitaswara, a young singer from Bandung who performed several songs.
