The Regional Secretary (Sekda) of West Java Province, Dr. H. Iwa Karniwa, S.E., Ak., M.M., CA., PIA, said that the accounting profession must be able to improve the welfare of the people of West Java by reducing poverty and unemployment rates. Iwa conveyed this message during his speech at the Halal BiHalal event and Eid al-Fitr celebration at the Professional Accounting Charity in the Auditorium (Multipurpose Building) of Universitas Widyatama in Bandung on Saturday (7/22/2017).
Iwa said that poverty and unemployment can be done by accountants in both the education and professional sectors who work in companies by providing education to the community. “As the Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Indonesian Accounting Association (IAI), we certainly encourage poverty reduction and unemployment reduction,” he said.
In addition, the middle class economy must also be encouraged to be able to compete globally. Thus, economic activity will increase, requiring accounting services at the national level, especially in West Java. “This certainly needs to be anticipated, one of which is through the accounting profession, so that they can increase their capacity as accountants, both educational and professional accountants, and as the doctors of companies, they can also provide education to the community,” he explained.
Iwa added that in the era of the Asean Economic Community (AEC), accountants must be able to compete with foreign workers. Therefore, the accounting profession in a company should prioritize local workers, especially those from West Java. “We must not allow the accounting profession to be dominated by foreigners in the AEC era. Accounting services must be provided by Indonesians, especially those from West Java,” he said.
The West Java Provincial Government (Pemprov) is also targeting an increase in transportation capacity to 100,000 people by 2018. To achieve this, Iwa continued, the target can be reached through skill enhancement training for accountants.
“One of the ways is through training to enhance the professional skills of accountants,” he concluded.
