Reported by CNN Indonesia — Dimas Djayadiningrat, a music, film, and advertising director, emphasized that inspiration can arise when someone has their own standing point. According to him, if someone’s standing point is only half-hearted, then whatever work they do will not produce anything.
Dimas Djay’s emphasis was expressed during the “1 Hari 3 Ilmu” event held by CNNindonesia.com at the Widyatama University campus in Bandung on Wednesday (13/12).
“So where do we stand? Are we idealists or do we follow trends?” Dimas said in front of the participants on Wednesday (13/12).
Dimas stated that if people choose to be idealists, they must be prepared for their work to be overlooked by others. However, idealism sometimes brings out the uniqueness of the work itself.
Following trends means that what you produce will be similar to the work of others, but there will be no uniqueness.
Although there are positive and negative sides to this, both can coexist and be done by one person. It depends on the needs and conditions in the field, he said.
“I want to be idealistic, but some people ask me to follow trends. So it’s 50-50,” he said.
Once you have a standing point, ideas and communication become things to think about. Whatever work you create must have a clear meaning, be communicated effectively, but still be bold.
What Dimas means by bold is something that is out of the box, so that his work attracts people’s attention. If these points can be implemented, Dimas believes that inspiration for works will emerge in their own style. However, he insists that this inspiration should not be hindered by too much thought or overthinking.
“Overthinking kills happiness,” he said.
In addition to Dimas Djay, musician Erix Soekamti was also one of the speakers who shared his ideas and thoughts on inspiration in creative work. Erix emphasized three main points related to inspiration, namely ideas, potential, and creativity.
According to Erix, ideas and potential will emerge depending on each person and what they want to create. He cited the band Endank Soekamti as an example of an object to be used as inspiration. He believes that one must look at the direction Endank Soekamti is heading in order to find the right idea.
“Endank Soekamti is heading towards the community, so one of their fans, for example,” he said.
Once the potential and ideas have been found and refined, creativity becomes the peak of that inspiration. According to Erix, if the creativity used to promote a work is ordinary, then the work will not be noticed by people.
Meanwhile, if creativity can be developed into something out of the box, as mentioned by Dimas Djay, then the work created will definitely be noticed by the audience.
