The Library and Information Science Study Program, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Widyatama University (UTama), held a workshop on school library improvement based on accreditation at SMK Lugina Rancaekek, Bandung Regency, on Tuesday (21/9/2021).
This awareness-raising activity served as an introduction to providing new insights for librarians, including teachers at SMK Lugina Rancaekek, in creating libraries that meet the standards set by the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia.
Merryam Agustine, S.Sos., M.I.Kom., a lecturer in the Library and Information Science Study Program who was the workshop presenter, said that there are several things that must be considered in fulfilling school library accreditation in accordance with national library standards.

“Things to consider include services, cooperation, book collections, organization of library materials, human resources, buildings or rooms as facilities and infrastructure, budgets, library management, and library collection maintenance,” said Merryam on Friday (9/30/2021).
According to her, the dissemination of information on accreditation-based library improvements at SMK Lugina Rancaekek is the beginning of library activities. The goal is for the library, as the heart of education, to be utilized properly by the school community, especially the students.
Merryam added that the entire school library must comply with the rules or standards set by the national library.

The material presented by Marryam was based on accreditation standards for school libraries, provided by the national library.
The event was also part of a series of Community Service (PKM) activities organized by the Library and Information Science Study Program. The theme was “Improving School Libraries Based on Accreditation.”
“We hope that this PKM activity can help make the Lugina Rancaekek Vocational School library a library that meets national library standards,” said Merryam.

The workshop was attended by lecturers and students from the Library and Information Science Study Program, teachers, and librarians from SMK Lugina Rancaekek. There were 25 participants in total.
“During the event, the participants were enthusiastic about asking questions about library improvement activities,” concluded Merryam.
