The role of Widyatama University (UTama), the number one private university according to Webometrics, in assisting business actors, especially amid the pandemic and the 4.0 era, continues to be carried out.
This time, it was carried out by UTama lecturers from the Bachelor’s and Diploma Accounting Study Programs, consisting of R. Roosaleh Laksono, T.Y, S.T., S.Si., M.E., Bunga Indah Bayunitri, S.E., M.M., Ak., CA, Ignatius Oki Dewa Brata, S.E., M.Si., Ak., CA, Remon Gunanta, S.Pd., M.Si., Ak, Sendi Gusnandar Arnan, S.E., M.M., Ak. CA, and Yogo Heru Prayitno, S.E., M.Si., Ak., CA.
They conducted community service activities (PKM) for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Kancah Guna Bangun, which is engaged in the rubber product sector.
The location is in Kampung BTN, Jalan Cihonje-Batukarut No.58, Wargaluyu, Arjasari District, Bandung Regency.
In the PKM, the UTama accounting lecturers provided knowledge and training in basic accounting to solve problems related to financial statements or financial reports.
“The purpose of this Community Service Program is to optimize medium-sized rubber product businesses that are constrained by a lack of basic accounting knowledge,” said Ignatius Oki Dewa Brata, representing other lecturers, on Monday (31/1/2022).
“Another objective is to increase their business’s marginal profit by expanding their marketing after understanding basic accounting knowledge and its application. This PkM activity is also supported by LP2M UTama,” he added.
Oki further said that the role of basic accounting knowledge in the 4.0 era is not only to improve the ability to calculate, record, and prepare financial reports.
“The goal of this training is also to teach basic accounting skills that can be used to set attractive prices, distribute products easily, and retain existing customers while maintaining the principle of customer satisfaction,” said Oki.
Therefore, after participating in the training, it is hoped that MSME players will be able to attract as many consumers as possible. At the same time, they will be able to increase profits and reduce operational costs, thereby offering competitive prices.
Oki added that the benefits of this activity for MSME players who participated were that they became aware of and understood the importance of basic accounting knowledge for their businesses, which is part of business organization management.
In addition, they were able to directly practice how to use basic accounting knowledge.
“MSME players who participate can be inspired and motivated to learn and use accounting knowledge in basic accounting management,” concluded Oki.
Global Industry Competition in the 4.0 Era
Oki also explained that current industrial production is driven by global competition and the need for rapid production adaptation to ever-changing market demand.
These requirements can only be met by radical advances in current manufacturing technology. Industry 4.0 is a promising approach based on the integration of business and manufacturing processes, as well as the integration of all actors in the company’s value chain (suppliers and customers).
Related to the PkM activities of Accounting Lecturers at UMKM (Guna Karya Bangun rubber home industry), it is also influenced by manufacturing in this century, as well as major shifts and changes from the original version.
According to him, since the evolution of the first industrial revolution, this sector has developed in all aspects, with more technology being incorporated into its processes. This is especially true in the Western world, which uses automation and computer-integrated technology to improve its manufacturing. Meanwhile, Japanese industry has designed a manufacturing method focused on customer value called “lean manufacturing.”
