(Ciamis, July 20th, 2024) The English Language Study Program at Widyatama University collaborated with the English Language Education Study Program at Galuh University for the Teaching Campus Program in Kampung Literasi Cisontrol, Ciamis, West Java. This program lasted for approximately 3 months and focused on teaching English to elementary, junior high, and high school students. The program has been enthusiastically received by students and parents in Cisontrol Village.
By directly deploying English students as teachers, this program is conducted every Saturday and Sunday, from May 3, 2024 to July 20, 2024. Under the coordination of Kampung Literasi Cisontrol (KLC), Purwadaksina Foundation, this program is attended by around 70 students of different ages and educational levels. KLC Coordinator, Yulis Hadiyanti, M.Pd., expressed her hope that this program can continue to be carried out consistently so that it can improve the English language skills of the students as part of the preparation for Cisontrol Village to become a global tourist village, especially in terms of human resource preparation. This was echoed by the Head of Cisontrol Village, Waryono, who outlined several potentials and programs of Cisontrol Village to steer the cultural village towards globalization.
At the coordination meeting, the Rector of Widyatama University, Prof. Dr. Dadang Suganda, M.Hum., and the Rector of Galuh University, Prof. Dr. Dadi, M.Si., agreed to continue developing the Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi (Three Pillars of Higher Education) collaboration in various fields in Cisontrol Village as a special foster village, as well as in the surrounding areas as a form of implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The closing ceremony of the first campus teaching program was quite lively, featuring English presentations by students and the awarding of prizes to the best students. This event was attended by several structural officials and lecturers from UTama, namely the Dean of FIB (Dr. Hendar, M.Pd.), Deputy Dean of FIB (Puspita Sari, S.S., M.Hum.), Head of the English Study Program (Dr. Ervina CM Simatupang, M.Hum.), Secretary of the English Study Program (Heri Heryono, S.S., M.Hum.), Head of Public Relations, Cooperation, and Compliance (Atri Nadia Astarina, M.Pd) , as well as from UNIGAL, which was attended by the Head of the English Education Program (Lilies Youlia Friatin, S.S., M.Pd., BI.), Secretary of the English Program (Bambang Ruby, S.Pdi., M.Pd.), Dr. Iskhak Said, Drs., M.Pd., and several staff members.
