BANDUNG – Hundreds of parents of new students at Universitas Widyatama for the class of 2025 packed the Multipurpose Building (GSG) on Saturday, August 30th, 2025. Their presence was in response to an invitation to the “Welcome Parents” event initiated by the university. The event aimed to build a bridge of communication and synergy between the campus and families, as a first step in ensuring the educational success of the new students.
Campus and Family Synergy to Support New Students’ Education
This activity was specifically designed to lay the foundation for strong collaboration. Mr. I Gede Nyoman Wisnu Satyadharma, S.T., M.Sn., as the committee representative, emphasized the importance of cooperation between the two main educational environments for students. According to him, this synergy is important to optimize the potential of each individual.
“The background of this activity is that we want to build communication with the parents of new students. The goal is, of course, to build cooperation between universities as educators in the university environment and parents as educators in the family environment,” said I Gede Nyoman. Furthermore, he hopes that this collaboration can monitor student development holistically, where parents can provide valuable input regarding campus services and their children’s development at home.
Academic and Non-Academic Preparation for New Students
During the presentation session, university executives took turns providing comprehensive briefings to parents. The Rector of Widyatama University, Prof. Dr. H. Dadang Suganda, M.Hum., encouraged new students to focus on their studies in order to achieve outstanding results.
Next, the Vice Rector for Academic & Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Reiza D. Dienaputra, M.Hum., explained the importance of the academic calendar and the development of soft skills. He emphasized that students must not only excel academically, but also be sociable in order to broaden their knowledge and experience outside the classroom. On the other hand, Dr. R. Wedi Rusmawan Kusumah, S.E., M.Si., Ak., C.A., discussed various internal and external scholarship schemes that can be accessed by outstanding students, both in academic and non-academic fields. As a complement, Pipin Sukandi, S.E., M.M., from the Career Bureau, explained career preparation programs designed to equip students from the beginning until they are ready to enter the workforce.
The parents in attendance also had high hopes. One of them was Mrs. Wantini, the mother of Elsya Revina Rahmawati, a new student in the Accounting Study Program. With great optimism, she shared her hopes that her daughter would receive the best education and achieve success like her older sister, who is also a Widyatama alumnus.
“My hope is that my child will get the best education, graduate as expected, and get a good job. Alhamdulillah, Widyatama has excellent accreditation. My third child is also here, and Alhamdulillah, he got a good job after graduating,” said Mrs. Wantini with sparkling eyes. She hopes that her daughter’s college journey will run smoothly in all aspects, both educationally and financially.
In conclusion, the “Welcome Parents” event is not simply a welcoming ceremony, but a reaffirmation of Universitas Widyatama’s commitment to actively involving parents in the educational ecosystem. With open communication and the formation of a new IOM board, it is hoped that the academic journey of new students will not only be the responsibility of the campus, but also a joint success project fully supported by families at home.
