Widyatama University (UTama) held the Widyatama International Conference on Business, Economics, Social and Technology (WIBEST) 2021. Research papers from lecturers are to be published in an international journal indexed by Scopus. Approximately 104 research papers were submitted to the committee of WIBEST 2021. In one paper submitted there were at least three lecturers who collaborated doing the research. This means about 300 lecturers involved in the research. The participants of the conference were from Canada, Morocco, Thailand, Malaysia, Taiwan, including Indonesia. Delivered online through the zoom meeting application, Wednesday, February 9, 2021. This was explained by Prof. H. Obsatar Sinaga UTama Rector, in the meeting room of the Rector, 2nd Floor, Jalan Cikutra No 204 A. In addition, the reason for UTama to hold WIBEST 2021 is due to the aspirations from both external and internal UTama campus academic community.
Previously, UTama had held the 3rd International Conference of Business, Policy And Social Sciences 2020 on 14-15 October 2020. “They want UTama to hold an international seminar again. Compiling and even collecting papers that are worthy of publication in international journals indexed by Scopus, “said Prof. Obi, the Rector of UTama who is usually called. “Incidentally, Widyatama University has good cooperation with chief editors from abroad, such as the United States and Europe. We also try to aid colleagues who want to promote their academic ranks. They need points for their research or further study which prerequisites international journal indexed by Scopus, “he added.
On the same occasion Prof. Dr. Mohd. Haizam Bin Mohd. Saudi, Vice Rector III of Research, Development and Cooperation of UTama, added that the submitted papers were then presented by the participants. Performed in parallel sessions. The papers were about socio-economy and others. Each participant was given 10 minutes to present the contents of the research. Then discussed and commented on by other participants, to provide further explanation. There was a review to submitted papers by Widyatama University and the committee. They would assess the quality of the paper, like, the contents, conclusions, methods, benefits to the industrial world and the academic world, after the findings, which were carried out in the research.
“There were participants who delivered about the economic situation in West Java which was affected by the pandemic. The effective method in solving the problems should be investigated and discussed by participants. The findings should have impact to society. Therefore, we could assess the effectiveness and solutions offered to the community or whether the paper had quality or not, “he explained. After the process had been passed, it would be submitted to the editor for further editing. “The Letter of Acceptance (LoA) would be released approximately in two weeks. Meanwhile, for publication in an international journal indexed by Scopus, it would take between one to three months,” he added.
WIBEST 2021 which were attended by more than 300 lecturers, according to him, was beyond UTama’s expectation. “This event took place in the beginning of the year, while lecturers generally write in the middle of the year or the end of the year. One of the reasons was they pursue the Key Performance Indicator. Response given by internal and external lecturers was very good. They are aware that during the pandemic, they should keep writing to increase their functional position, “said Prof. Haizam. He also hopes that UTama will become a superior research campus. Widyatama University is a platform, in carrying out high-quality research that has benefits for the wider community.
