The role and the existence of the national press or mass media in the modern and digital era is still essential. Especially, to be the benchmark for news that is trusted, serious and accurate.  This was conveyed by Prof. Obsatar Sinaga, Rector of Widyatama University (UTama) in the commemoration of National Press Day, Tuesday, February 9, 2021.

“With the development of social media, the Indonesian press is attempting to discover a form between the modern press and the press that penetrates the digital world”, said Prof. Obi, the nickname of the Utama’s Rector, after opening the Widyatama International Conference on Business, Economics, Social and Technology (WIBEST) 2021, at the UTama campus.

He also asserted, “There are social media reports that are tendentious, subjective and even accusing. The mass media or the press supposed to be the mainstream media, to prove the right thing. On this National Press Day and the 75th anniversary of the Indonesian Journalists Association, people of the press, especially, the seniors who are involved in the press, can formulate the press in this digital age.  The press that is not tremendously influenced by social media, neither being a supporter of the development of a social media whose content is uncertain, instead it becomes similar to social media”, concluded Prof. Obi, who once led Bandung Pos Daily in 2004 and became the Commissioner of the Central of the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission period 2016-2019.
