Yayasan Widyatama was originally named Yayasan Pendidikan dan Pengajaran Bandung (YPPAB) which was established in Bandung on January 3, 1973 on the initiative of Dra. Koesbandijah Abdoel Kadir, Ak (now Prof. Dr. Hj Koesbandijah Abdoel Kadir, MS, Ak., Chairman of the Board of Foundation of Widyatama Foundation). The foundation manages the Institut Akuntansi Bandung (IAB) with the Accounting Study Program (S1). In 1979 the name of the Foundation was changed to Yayasan Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Ekonomi Bandung (YASTIEB) and managed Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Ekonomi Bandung (STIEB) with S1 Accounting Department and S1 Program of Management Department, which in 1995 added with D3 Program of Accounting and D3 Program Management.
Following the development of the needs and developments of the Foundation itself, based on notarial deed of Lien Tanudirdja, SH dated 3 January 1993, the name of the Foundation was changed to Yayasan Widyatama. The foundation manages the economic field (Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Ekonomi Bandung-STIEB), engineering (Sekolah Tinggi Teknologi Bandung-Widyatama), language (Sekolah Tinggi Bahasa Bandung-Widyatama), visual communication design (Sekolah Tinggi Desain Komunikasi Visual-Widyatama) and MM Program Widyatama, as well as Accounting Profession Program (PPA).
In addition Widyatama Foundation also manage the Lembaga Pengembangan dan Aplikasi Ilmu Pengetahuan (LPAP) which provides services to students and other parties who need in developing knowledge and apply it in the midst of society. The four high schools, and the MM program starting August 1, 2001 has changed its status to Widyatama University located on Jl Cikutra No. 1. 204 A Bandung, with an area of approximately 50.000 m2 campus.
The establishment of Widyatama University is in accordance with the mission of the Foundation is to help the Government of the Republic of Indonesia to educate the nation’s life by way of conducting educational institutions that develop various disciplines. Educational activities organized by educational institutions above aim to equip learners with skills and knowledge relevant to the needs of society (based on competence), able to adapt to the work environment later and can keep up with progress in global atmosphere.
