A smile of joy and happiness spread from the faces of the 3rd and 4th grade students of Al Huda Arjasari Arjasari Regency, Bandung. When Widyatama University students gave English language lessons and prizes.
In addition, they also shared and distributed around 200 food packages, containing of 2 kg of rice, vegetable oil, sardines and others to the elderly and those entitled to receive supports.
The activity was a series of activities of UTD UTAMA 2019; the implementation of Higher Education Tri Dharma.
Held for two days, 13-14 December 2019, in the village of Pinggirsari, Arjasari District, Bandung Regency.
Kirana, Chief Executive of Abdi UTama at MI Al Huda told majalahsora.com that Abdi Utama was the first activity conducted by students under the auspices of Widyatama’s Student Affairs Bureau.
“In this activity we are doing educational services, community service, distributing groceries and others,” Kirana said, Saturday (12/14/2019)
Furthermore, Kirana said, there were around 40 students of Widyatama University who were involved. Includes students from 5 faculties and 18 study programs that took part in the UTD Abdi 2019.
Students who participate were active members in the Student Activity Unit (UKM) there.
In addition, they provided counseling for Al Huda Madrasah (MA) students, the material was delivered directly by DKV lecturers.
As for their community service, they went through the area around RW 6 and 20, picking up trash sweeping and pulling weeds.
“This is the first time of the Abdi Utama activity. Hopefully it can be carried out routinely. This is well done, as a form of real service and a form of concern for Widyatama students to the community. Hopefully things in the future will improve even more, to help others, “Kirana said.
Meanwhile Megawati, Chairperson of the Student Consultative Assembly (MPM) Widyatama, in the 2019-2020 service period, was very grateful to all participating organizing committees.
“Hopefully, this Abdi UTama activity will run optimally and can take place again next year and fix existing obstacles. I give my thanks to all UKM, “he said.
On the same occasion, Pawit- Head of the Widyatama University Student Affairs Bureau- explained that the experiencing of Abdi Widyatama, was one of the obligations of students towards community service.
“This activity follows the Kemenristekdikti regulations, that on campus it is not only lecturers who empower people but also students,” he explained.
He further said the purpose of the activity was how students could invest their knowledge in the community.
Among them was Widyatama’s educational activity which teaches English to MI Al Huda students.
“Yesterday, on Friday (12/13/2019) there was also a training session on marketing about managing Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), for SMEs and farmers. Delivered directly by lecturers in the faculty of economics, DKV and management,” Pawit added.
“Today (Saturday 14/12/2019) there is Widyatama educating. Earlier there was also community service, cleaning the village with the official chief of the region. Then it was closed with the distribution of groceries at the village office of Pinggirsari, Arjasari, Bandung Regency,” Pawit stated.
“The plan for this activity is regular. It’s been scheduled every semester. Followed by students in UKM, every study program. At least they will do the main service once, “he added.
When asked by Abdi UTama magazine conducted in the village of Pinggirsari, he explained that it was in accordance with references from PIKUM (Community Entrepreneurship Incubation Center) of West Java.
He hoped that the presence of Abdi UTama in the village of Pinggirsari would be beneficial for MI and MA Al Huda. Likewise, for farmers and entrepreneurs who have been given counseling. Food recipients can also feel the benefits.
“Hopefully it will be an added value for them. For our students, we can provide experience and improve social life and care for the community,”
He also explained that this activity could not be separated from the support of the Widyatama Foundation, Prof. H. Obsatar Sinaga, Rector of Widyatama University, lecturers, Student Affairs Bureau and students who support morally and materially.
