The 21st century has brought about new social demands that necessitate every citizen to possess additional set of skills to effectively integrate in the society. Learning to collaborate with others and connect through technology is increasingly being reported as essential skills in a knowledge-based economy. Most researchers agree that the 21st century society need: new ways of working; thinking; tools to carry out certain task; and new set of skills for living which are different from those of the 20th century society. The educational sector has the capacity to prepare learners to respond to these new demands.

Educators as the key actors in the entire process are required to regularly update their skills to successfully implement any reforms that lead to quality learning outcomes for every learner. The goals of professional development for educators are to assist them to get a better understanding of research-based instructional strategies and to deepen their capabilities to improve students’ achievement. This conference perceives technology integration skills in teaching and learning; methodologies and strategies in teaching, learning and assessment; leadership in teaching and learning; curriculum for the 21st century and quality assurance in teaching and learning as some of the key themes that can kick start some discussions on how best to improve the quality of teaching and learning in the 21st century.

This conference focuses on five sub themes deemed important to inform practitioners and policy makers on challenges and aspirations of the 21st century teachers.
